Dear Clients and friends,

In preparation to working with those in my Project 2012…which may very well extend itself thru 2013….

As I mentioned before, I have decided to work Tuesday mornings at a facility in Hollywood called Gettlove, a day time drop-in shelter for the homeless, they provide meals, clothing, counseling and other support services for anyone who may be in need, and now on Tuesday I will be cutting hair for some of there female patrons. I wanted to do this for two reasons, first its just a good damn thing to do, and second it gives me an opportunity to get to know a group of individuals until now I have little to no contact. I am touched by both their gratitude and I am told their confidence have been greatly enhanced.

Here are pictures of some of the women I have been blessed to work with… more to follow.

After speaking with the director, Sunny, I asked him what if anything my clients who wanted could do to help?…He quickly let me know that any clothing particularly men’s used clothes and shoes! New socks and underwear would also be greatly appreciated.you can drop any and all items with me at your next appointment,and i will drop them off on the following Tues….

MJ Gives Back

I have been trying to come up with ways to give back to this world that has been so generous to me. So in my own little effort to try and save the world, I have decided to donate my time to a Homeless Shelter in Hollywood named GETTLOVE. Here is their Mission Statement:

Unlike most organizations providing goods and services to the homeless, GETTLOVE goes to where the homeless can be found in a coordinated but random pattern of distributions designed to personally and individually connect with those living on the street, gathered at existing service sites and encamped in secluded areas.

GETTLOVE is committed to bringing loving, personal and individual recognition and communication to each individual we encounter in our daily distributions. We believe this interaction will reduce the desperation, loneliness and alienation so often fostered by ostracism and neglect and in turn produce greater harmony between the homeless and the rest of the community through an experience of acknowledgement, love and communication.

GETTLOVE recognizes its efforts will not solve the complex causes of homelessness and is not designed to do so. However, the spontaneous hand-to-hand and face-to-face distributions are intended to…

…acknowledge each individual as a human being

…demonstrate to those who may have lost hope that others do care

…re-affirm that we are all part of the human family

…bring some momentary relief to the daily suffering endured by so many

…show love to every human being regardless of their circumstances

Every Tuesday morning, I am providing my time and talent to the local homeless women of the GETTLOVE shelter. I am hoping that my efforts may inspire others to give their talents too as I try to do my part to put some hope and a smile into someone that may feel lost right now.
